Casual meet up at a local Brisbane pub

Southbank Beer Garden 30ba, Stanley Street Plaza, South Brisbane QLD 4101

Whether you’ve attended a workshop or have just arrived for the conference, we’d love to see you before the main event for some food and drinks. Catch up with colleagues and friends or make some new ones!

We will be walking to the venue after the workshops at roughly 5pm for arrival at 5.30pm. There will be student volunteers to guide the group leaving from P Block at 5pm. It is also very easy to make your own way there by crossing the Goodwill Bridge and walking along the promenade at Southbank Parklands (15 minute walk, see map). Again, this is a casual affair so feel free to come and go as you please. We look forward to seeing you there!

Wednesday 29th Nov

Welcome Reception, Stamford Plaza

Corner of Margaret and Edward Street Brisbane, QLD 4000

The Stamford Plaza boasts an entertainment veranda with stunning views of the river and the city. Our Welcome Reception will start after the final session on Wednesday. This is included in the conference fee and does not require further registration (unless you require extra tickets).

After the reception, those who are keen are invited to join us for a short walk along the river to one of the many vibrant bars at the Riverside precinct with views across the Brisbane River and Story Bridge. This part of the evening is not included in conference fee.

Thursday 30th Nov

Conference Dinner: The Summit Restaurant

1012 Sir Samuel Griffith Drive Mount Coot-Tha Brisbane, QLD 4066

This year’s conference dinner will be held at The Summit Restaurant atop the breath-taking Mount Coot-Tha. Coach transport will be provided from the conference venue, arriving at the top of Brisbane’s closest mountain in time to watch the sunset over the city, while enjoying a glass of fizz and canapés. Following this, dinner will be served with panoramic views out over the landscape.

The menu is available on request. If you have any specific dietary or transport requirements, please let us know via email: cara.wilson@qut.edu.au or indicate these on the Event Form here as soon as possible.

Buses will drop us off back at the Stamford Plaza. Those who are keen to continue from there are invited to join us at Brooklyn Standard, a fun dance spot with live music and great cocktails and beers.

Friday 1st Dec

After Party - Newstead Brewing Co.

67 Castlemaine Street Milton QLD 4064

It’s Friday! Come and join us for some post-conference fun at Newstead Brewing Co. The lovely staff will be providing us with free tours of the brewery for anyone who would like to learn more about how craft beer is made. If that sounds like you, please make sure you indicate you’d like to be part of the tour group on our Event Form here or email cara.wilson@qut.edu.au. Tours take roughly 20-30 minutes.

For those who prefer to sample the beers, we’ll have a space in the main bar for drinks and food. This event is not included in the conference fee and attendees are invited to purchase their own food and drinks, but please let us know here if you’d like to come along.

The menu is available online at http://newsteadbrewing.com.au/the-pubs/castlemaine-street-milton. It will be a great way to round off the conference!

After Newstead, we’ll be heading to Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall for some live music and dancing. This event is not included in the conference fee.
