Keynote Speakers



We are delighted to be able to announce our three keynote speakers.

Professor Pelle Ehn

Professor Pelle Ehn is professor at the School of Arts and Communication, Malmö University, Sweden. He has for four decades (!) been involved in the research field of participatory design and in bridging design and information technology. Research projects include DEMOS from the seventies on information technology and work place democracy, UTOPIA from the eighties on user participation and skill based design, ATELIER from the last decade on architecture and technology for creative environments, and during the last years Malmö Living Labs, on open design environments for social innovation. His publications include Computers and Democracy (1987), Work-Oriented Design of Computer Artifacts (1988), Manifesto for a Digital Bauhaus (1998), and as one of the voices of A.Telier Design Things (2011). Later publications include Agonistic participatory design (CoDesign), Design Matters in Participatory Design (International handbook on Participatory Design), Design Things versus Design Thinking (Design Issues), Utopian Design (Design and Anthropology), What is the object of design (CHI), and Making Futures (forthcoming).


Associate Professor Frank Vetere

Associate Professor Frank Vetere is leader of the Interaction Design Lab and the Director of the Microsoft Research Centre for Social Natural User Interfaces (Social-NUI), at The University of Melbourne. Frank¹s research aims to generate knowledge about the use and design of information and communication technologies (ICT) for human wellbeing and social benefit. His research interests are in social computing (especially Social NUIs), technologies for ageing-well, and domestic technologies (especially those that contribute to everyday familial interactions)


Ms Cecilia Hill

Ms Cecilia Hill is the General Manager of Telstra's Design Practice, her area of responsibility covers Consumer, Business and Enterprise product design and strategy. Her team provides Telstra with Design Thinking, Experience Design and Advocacy testing services. Her mission is to make Telstra an Experience lead Organization. A significant milestone has already been achieved by the establishment of Telstra's Design Principles together with her introduction of Design Thinking into Telstra's product development process. Cecilia has over 12 years experience of working with businesses to create efficient and useful designs that achieve both business strategy and customer experience expectations. Her background in computer science, business and psychology, coupled with her passion for excellence helps her drive Design into the centre of Telstra's product strategy. Cecilia has a passion for problem solving and making products simple to use and a joy to experience. She is an admirer of Dyson design and loves coffee!
